13th Arrondissement

The Thirteenth arrondissement is located on the Rive Gauche (Left Bank) of Paris. It is in the south eastern portion of Paris and is the location of Paris’ largest quartier chinois (Chinatown). It is also home to a number of Paris high-rises. The mix of these two factors makes Paris apartments in the Thirteenth a modern cosmopolitan experience.

Paris apartments in the Thirteenth, with its Chinatown, are on the doorstep of Asian culture. The Thirteenth truly lacks nothing in this respect, whether it be a wide range of Asian restaurants (Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Chinese, Korean, etc), or stores that offer a wide variety of Asian goods. The Thirteenth is even home to a chain of Asian supermarkets, Tang Frères, which can fill the largest fridges with Asian delicacies. The Thirteenth also hosts massive Chinese New Year celebrations, including a parade. Paris apartments in the Thirteenth, with its Asian neighborhoods, have an even greater degree of cosmopolitanism than the rest of cosmopolitan Paris.

Those seeking a more French experience in the Thirteenth may want a Paris apartment in the Butte-aux-Cailles neighborhood. Prior to the late nineteenth century this part of the Thirteenth was actually its own town. That it was once its own distinct town can still be felt today as the Butte-aux-Cailles neighborhood retains its own identity compared to the rest of the Thirteenth. The neighborhood is just younger and trendier, with a livelier café and bar life, than its surroundings. A Paris apartment in the Butte-aux-Cailles neighborhood is perfect for those looking for a unique experience in Paris.

Paris apartments in the Thirteenth, with the arrondissement’s high-rises, have a touch of new world cities to them as well. There is no doubt that the first noticeable thing about the Thirteenth is its high-rises, whether they are residential, commercial or governmental. Of the residential skyscrapers, the most notable is the Tour Super-Italie, which is cylindrical in shape. On the Seine lies the skyscraper library complex of the Bibliothèque François Mitterand. The four towers of this complex contains the vast majority of the Bibliothèque nationale de France’s (France’s Library of Congress) collection. The library, naturally, is open to the public, and can fulfill any book worm’s desires. These surroundings give Paris apartments in the Thirteenth a feeling of modernity and motion.
